In today's world, making things easy and quick is crucial. One thing that has gotten much better is how we buy stuff online, like joining communities, signing up for events, or getting content. The idea of unified checkout is to make the whole process smoother for users, so it's simpler and makes them happier.
The old checkout process, particularly for first-time event attendees or content purchasers, often involves multiple steps. Take, for instance, a scenario where a user wants to join a Free application-based community and register for a paid event. The user has to navigate through four steps separate steps, including filling in personal details, submitting an application form, awaiting approval, and finally making the event purchase. This intricate process not only leads to prolonged waiting times for users but also results in potential revenue loss for Community Managers.
This new feature aims to simplify the checkout experience by reducing the number of steps required for users to join a community and be able to purchase event/content in one go.
In this article, you will see different onboarding flows for the following scenario:
To join a community, users would be initially asked for the usual information, such as:
Phone number (If the community is linked to a WhatsApp group)
Email address
First name and last name
Once you proceed to the checkout screen, the email will be greyed out while First Name and Last name are auto-populated based on the details you have provided on the previous step.
Key Improvements in the Checkout Process
Here are the improvements on each scenario for unified checkout:
Paid Community with Application form
On the checkout screen, users will complete the payment due for membership along with the list of questions asked in the application form on the same page.
Upon successful payment, user will be notified that their payment is successful but their application is pending approval.
User will be notified via email once the Community Manager/admin approves their application.
Please note that if a Community Manager/Admin reject an application of a paid user, it will automatically refund the payment made for the membership.
Free Community with Paid Event/Content purchase
On the checkout screen, users will see that the membership is free plus it will show the amount due for the event/content they are trying to purchase.
User will complete payment for the event/content on the same page
Upon successful payment, user will be taken to the Events/Contents tab on the Members portal, with the success modal showing they have successfully purchased the event/content.

How does the Free Trial work if the community is application-based?
For application-based communities, the Free Trial will commence upon the moment the user's application is approved by the Community Manager.
